Nancy Emch is a North Dakota–based artist whose work captures the quiet depth of family, land, and lived experience.

Working across oil, charcoal, pastel, and watercolor, she creates pieces that invite viewers to slow down—offering both immediate beauty and deeper meaning for those willing to look closer.

Her artistic path began early, when her natural aptitude for drawing led her parents to enroll her in formal training as a teenager. Though she initially held her talent close, it was in college that Nancy found the confidence to fully pursue her work—developing a strong foundation in oil painting and charcoal before later discovering a love for pastel and watercolor.

Nancy’s work has been featured in national exhibitions, with pieces shown internationally in Paris—an experience that helped solidify her identity as an artist. Over time, her focus has shifted from technical realism to storytelling through detail, layering subtle elements and hidden symbols into her work to create a more immersive experience.

Deeply inspired by her life on the ranch and her role as a mother and grandmother, Nancy’s Family Collection reflects themes of connection, tenderness, and legacy. Her work often explores the contrast between how life appears and what it truly requires—capturing both the softness and the strength found in everyday moments.

She is currently revisiting her early exhibition concept, Kaleidoscope, in a new body of work that weaves together decades of artistic evolution. True to her style, the piece will include hidden elements—inviting viewers to discover fragments of time and meaning within the composition.

Nancy believes art should do more than replicate what can be seen—it should reveal what can be felt.
